OSHA is an abbreviation for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. It is a federal agency which is part of the United States (US) Department of Labor. The agency is charged with the responsibility of protecting the health and safety of American workers.
OSHA was created by the US Congress in 1970 by the Occupational, Safety and Health Act. The OSH law says that the right to a safe workplace is a basic human right. OSHA protects working men and women by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education, and compliance assistance for employers.
