The client should rest in a sitting position. This is because gravity helps in speeding up the digestion process, and also prevents stomach reflux back to the esophagus. Also known as Acid reflux, gastroesophageal reflux disease is a long-term disease in which the contents of the stomach get refluxed back into the esophagus.

This results in a taste of acid in the back of the throat, chest burn, and bad breath. The factors that can increase the risk of GERD include obesity, smoking, certain medications, or genetic factors. The treatment usually involves a change in lifestyle and habits, resulting in an improved condition.
