An organophosphate is compound whose molecule contains either one or multiple phosphate ester groups. This especially, but not exclusively, refers to organic fertilizers of this type.
Generally organophosphates is the broad name given to esters of phosphoric acid. It should be noted as well that organophosphates often have an intense neurotoxic activity as well. These sort of molecules were actually originally developed as nerve gases but as stated they are often fertilizers, insecticides, and fire retardants that are quite widely used these days.
