Chondrocytes are located in healthy cartilage whereas osteocytes are located in mature bone tissues.

The osteocyte is one of the bone cell types whereas chondrocytes are a type of cells. The main role of osteocyte is to maintain the bone tissue and chondrocytes are responsible for the maintenance of cartilage. However, both the cells originate from common cells, calledmesenchymal cells.
