The command is accepted and the respective VLAN is added to vlan.dat.
It's not amazing that we can easily set the switch port access even though VLAN 3 is not yet configured on your switch. VLAN basically stands for Virtual LAN which is partitioned at the second layer of the OSI model, called Data Link layer. VLANs work on logical connections and they don't need physical connections to communicate with other devices.
The command is accepted and the respective VLAN is added to vlan.dat.
Even VLAN 3 is not yet configured on the switch, we can set the switchport access vlan 3 command without no problem and it also displays when we type the show running-config command.
