There are multiple aspects of an examination. You need to take it one level at a time to ensure you miss nothing. For the primary examination, you need to do a neurological examination to determine the basic state of mind of the patient.

All other things like taking the vitals or palpating the abdomen to look for different organs come under secondary examination. You need to cover the basics first before moving on to the second part of the process. This ensures that you are taking all aspects into consideration and you have the necessary information to make a diagnosis.

There are different things that can be done to assess the current state of a trauma patient. The answer to this question is C. Brief neurological assessment is needed so that the trauma patient’s current level of consciousness will be checked. Some trauma patients are not conscious at all when brought to the clinic or hospital. The assessment will also cover the trauma patient’s pupil reaction.

The other choices that are mentioned for this question are all part of the secondary assessment that still needs to be conducted by the medical professionals who are attending to the patient. A trauma patient can be experiencing different states depending on how serious the trauma is.

Brief neurologic assessment

A brief neurologic assessment to determine level of consciousness and pupil reaction is part of the primary survey. Vital signs, assessment of the abdomen, and initiation of pulse oximetry are considered part of the secondary survey.
