Genes collaborate with each other; A single gene is usually the source of an inherited trait; Genetic expression is affected by environmental factors; Events inside of the cell can excite or inhibit genetic expression
A gene is in the DNA that contains our hereditary information. For example, the genes I received from my mother may be the gene that has to do with the color of my eyes. However, it usually takes many genes and combinations and processes in order to inherit a certain trait from our parents.
Like the word implies, a collaborative gene is actually many genes that come together in order to function as a whole on a certain function. Genetic expression is the system in which the information from the genes are made into products from the genes. Genes can be altered in many different ways. One way is through the environment. Both the environment and other events that take place in the cell can change the genetic expressions.
Chromosomes contain genes that an individual inherits from his parents. Some characteristics are controlled by a single gene, such as red-green colour blindness. Most characteristics are a result of multiple genes interacting, rather than a single gene. Genes have different varieties called alleles.
A trait may be inherited by one gene but it may not be from an individual's appearance that shows which two alleles of a gene are present within an organism's chromosomes. An allele that is hidden, or not expressed by an organism, can still be passed on to that organism's offspring and show up in a later generation.
