Basically, there are three universities that claim to be the oldest public university in the United States.

These are the following:

1. The University of Georgia

2. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

3. The College of William and Mary.

The University of Georgia was founded in the year 1785 and is one of the top public research universities in the United States. Its main campus is located in Athens, Georgia.
Charted in the year 1789, The University of North Carolina is one of the oldest public universities located at Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
And, The College of William & Mary was founded in the year 1693 and is located in Williamsburg, Virginia.
