The development of rice is seen as the triumph of the Green Revolution. The goal of the Green revolution was to increase agricultural yields by improving agricultural technology. The goal was targeted towards improving agricultural practice in developing countries to overcome food defects.
The Green revolution started around the late 1960s. Wide yielding varieties of seeds such as rice and wheat were developed. These high yield seeds responded well to fertilizers and resisted many agricultural diseases. Proper farming practices such as irrigation systems, the use of pesticides and insecticides were used to improve agricultural produces. Green Revolution led to the growth of more crops, an increase in crop intensity, and food security.

Development of “miracle” rice.
The Green Revolution refers to the period of introduction of high yielding variety of seeds such as rice and dwarf wheat, new methods of cultivation and adoption of new technologies. This happened between the 1950s to the 1960s. The aim of the revolution was to increase agricultural production worldwide, most especially in developing nations.
Chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and insecticides were also introduced at this time. Cereal production more than doubled in the developing countries due to the use of developed seeds, fertilizers and irrigation introduced to the farming system. Hope this helps.
