Though mass and weight are two words that are used in exchange with one another, but there are many differences between them. Both are used as a form of measurement. Mass is what takes up space. It is used to measure matter, that normally has no shape, but would be large.

Weight is how heavy something is. It is measured in pounds. When the Earth is at rest, mass and weight are the same amount. However, at different locations, these two measurements will be different. The only thing that will change is the weight, while the mass will be the same.

Mass and weight are used most times interchangeably. Most people refer to the mass of an object to be the weight of the object.

However, this is not true because they are of different qualities and concepts. The Mass of an object is different from the weight of the object.

Scientifically, the mass of an object is the amount of matter in an object in simple words mass is how much of Protons, neutrons, and electrons in an object.

The weight of an object is the force exerted on an object by gravity; weight can also be said as the gravitational connection between objects that has mass. The units for mass are Kilogram and gram; the unit for weight is the newton’s unit.

There are many correct answers to this question, as there are many differences between mass and weight. Many people have the tendency to use these words interchangeably, but they mean different things. At rest on Earth, the mass and weight are the same. However, at a different location, the weight would change, but the mass would not. If the gravity gets higher, the weight will increase. If gravity lowers, the weight will decrease.

Regardless of the gravity, the mass will not change. Another difference between them is that weight can be zero, but the mass will never be zero. Along with that, they are measured differently. Mass can be measured in kilograms or grams, while weight is measured in newtons.

Mass is anything that takes up space or in other words it is matter that usually does not have a shape to it, but is usually large. Weight is how many pounds something is. Even though there is a relationship between these two words, there is a great difference between mass and weight. Mass deals with the amount of matter something has. Weight on the other hand, is how much gravity brings down that matter.

Both are a measure of something. If someone wants to know how many pounds they are, they would get on a scale and see how much they weigh. Rarely would someone determine how much mass they are. Although, people do measure their body mass using a body mass index.
