What made the comedy series "The Office" so funny and popular?

The Office is a TV show that began in 2005 until 2013. It stars Steve Carell who has gone on to star in other movies. In The Office, Carell played Michael Scott who is one of the main characters in the show. Other main characters include Dwight Schrute, Jim Halpert, Pam Beesly, Ryan Howard, Andy Bernard and Robert California. These characters work in an office.

Ryan Howard becomes an employee of the paper distributor Dunder Mifflin and was a temporary employee. Michael Scott who is his boss gives him minor jobs to do, but Scott talks to him often, but Ryan feels uneasy with Scott. Later in the series, Howard gets a promotion and gets a better job which causes him to become braggy about his new job.
