The Anglo-Saxons were people who inhabited Great Britain from the 5th Century. They comprise people from Germanic Tribes who migrated to the island from continental Europe. The early Anglo-Saxon period includes the creation of an English nation. Many aspects of it are still relevant today, including regional government of shires and hundreds. Christianity was established, and charter and law were put into practice.

The history of Anglo-Saxons developed from the people's adoption of Christianity. The Anglo-Saxon culture can be seen in the culture of the buildings, and grave Gods. These emblems are symbolic, and they show strong elements of tribal and lordship ties. The genetic make-up of British populations today shows divisions of the tribal political units of the early Anglo-Saxon period.
