Jonas is an 11-year old protagonist in the book, The Giver. He is shown to strive for an important achievement and the book portrays his struggles initially. His personality is shown to be extremely analytical, where he even rejects a specific word, because it was too strong.

He is given a career at 11 in a community where everything is determined by the ruling body. Jonas is worried about Asher’s assignment because he thinks that Asher is not serious enough. This will impact his career assessment and progress and can cause him to be disqualified and Jonas doesn’t want that to happen.

Asher does not seem to have any serious interests.
