These include the presence of CNS depressants. There are a wide range of CNS depressant that include diazepam, meprobamate, mecloqualone, methaqualone, and barbiturates. Apart from that, Hypothermia can also be a leading cause where the temperature is less than approximately 32 degrees Celsius.

Furthermore, cardiovascular shock is another condition that can cause temporary reversible ECI. Other causes include severe metabolic disorder and endocrine disorder. This condition is also common among newborn babies that have neurologic birth defects/injuries. There are many other causes that are still being discovered by medical researchers.
