The relationship between actual distance and distance shown on a map. The definition of a map scale may lead one to believe that it is simple, but showing this relationship is not that simple.

This is because the Earth is curved, which can make showing the distance more difficult. The first step of finding a map scale is to find it on the outer part of the map. If one is not able to find it there, then they can try to locate a map key or a legend. These tools will help one understand the map.

It has the ability to show the actual distance and the distance that can be seen in a map. The concept to this may be simple but it should be remembered that measuring the actual distance is a bit complicated mainly because the Earth is a bit curved. In order to find the map scale, you can usually find this on the outer area of the map. If you still find this a bit hard to find, look for the legend of the map or the map’s key.

This will state different information that will make your map easier to understand. It is recommended that kids will already be taught how to read even the basics of the map. This is one skill that they can still use in the long run.
