There was a time when there were only 3 states of matter available. In fact, these 3 states of matter are still being taught in school to students. Right now, there are five states of matter that are recognized right now but four of them are encountered by people on a daily basis. Out of the four, plasma is the state of matter wherein the particles are far apart.
Plasma is different from gas because it contains both positive and negative particles. This is different from gases which may only have particles of a similar charge. The electrons within plasma can move freely around the space where it is placed. Plasma is formed when a gas becomes ionized.
