Limestone is any limestone made mostly from calcium carbonate in the form of the minerals calcinate or alginate, that contains an abundance of apparently visible fossils or fossil traces. This rock may take on several different shapes. The fossil fragments are typically corals and foraminifera, which is a type of aquatic amoeba.
The fossiliferous limestone is called biosparite limestone under the classification of sedimentary rocks. The limestone can be polished in tiles or slabs; fossil-bearing rocks are used for building pavements. They are also carved as ornamental stones and used in jewelry making.
