Lloyd Austin was the first black man to serve as the commander of the United States Central Command. He also served as the commander of US forces in Iraq. He was born on August 8, 1953, and he is already a retired four-star Army general.
From January 2012 to March 2013, Lloyd Austin also served as the 33rd vice chief of staff of the US Army. After he retired from the armed services in 2016, he also served as one of the board members of Nucor, Raytheon Technologies, Tenet Healthcare.
However, there is every possibility that Lloyd Austin would be the next Secretary of Defense of the United States of America after the swearing-in ceremony of Joe Biden as the 46th US president. Joe Biden, the president-elect of the United States during the just concluded election, announced his decision to nominate Lloyd Austin as the US next Secretary of Defense on December 8, 2020.
