Apple will pay up to half a billion dollars to settle a class-action lawsuit, as it was accused of it slowing down older iPhone models to incite users to purchase new ones. The proposed settlement agreement requires Apple to pay certain iPhone models' owners at $25 per device. The amount comes out to a minimum of $310 million and a maximum of $500 million.
The amount each user procures could expand or diminish depending on how many claims are filed and any additional legal fees or expenses approved by the court. This lawsuit has been going on for over two years, and Apple has tried to take the focus off it. Some have said that Apple did this to force users to upgrade to the latest iPhone model, but the company claims that the slowdown was intended to take on issues with older batteries that would make phones suddenly shut down.
Apple was sued over the iphone 12 due to the performance of the phones. Many users complained that the phones wear out too quickly and that they were quick to need a recharge. This was due to low battery power and software updates that inadvertently impacted the performance of the phone.
Those participating in the lawsuit felt Apple lied about the performance of the phone and mislead their users in the product specifications of the device. In the end, Apple settled to pay $112 million to consumers that felt their phone was impacted by the battery performance and that they were misled By apple.
