With the launch of various foldable smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy Fold that was released last September 2019 and the Samsung Galaxy Flip that was released last February 2020, inevitably, Apple might also make their version of a foldable smartphone.

Although there are mixed reviews and differing opinions of people regarding smartphones that fold, such as screen not being seamless, or the ‘folding’ aspect of the phone can accelerate the wear and tear of the phone and eventually destroy the screen altogether, Apple can use a state of the art technology that might change the minds of others. People are starting to speculate that Apple might release such a product in 2-3 years.

Yes, Apple will make a foldable smartphone. According to DigiTimes, Apple won’t be releasing the foldable iPhone until 2022; the report claims that the foldable iPhone is still undergoing testing at Foxconn Taiwan. Also, according to UBS predict, apple will make a foldable smartphone in the next two years, and the device is likely to be an iPad, not iPhone.

Apple has had a past history of releasing thin, sleek devices, but no record of the foldable phone; it is believed that with time apple will release a foldable phone with a high design standard. Rumors of apple's foldable phone have always popped up. For example, in 2017, it was reported that Apple was working with LG on foldable phones. In 2016, there were also rumors that Apple will be releasing foldable phone in 2020.

The correct answer to this question is yes. Apple definitely has plans to enter the foldable market and create a product to go against its competitors. However, fans of the brand may not see this phone until 2022. It is reported that these devices have been tested at Foxconn Taiwan and many suggest that it could come late next year. Apple has also obtained a patent for a foldable iPhone.

While many people would like to see it on the iPhone, the foldable device may first be seen on the iPads, as for engineers it may be easier to start with that than the smaller phones.

It is most likely that Apple smartphone products would be released very soon. At least, I think we should watch out for this within the next two years. This is because Samsung has made foldable smartphones a reality with the Galaxy Flip Z and the Galaxy Fold. Recently, Samsung has promised to offer foldable displays to Apple to be used in future iPhones. Corning, an apple supplier, is also working on a foldable glass solution, which seems a promising one. Jon Prosser actually claimed also that Apple is currently working on a prototype of a foldable iPhone, which features not a single display design like that of the Samsung Galaxy Fold, but rather, two distinct display panels connected by a hinge. The phone would look similar to the iPhone 11, featuring round and stainless edges. Though there is no notch present, Apple has made a sort of forehead that looks tiny, and this houses the Face ID.

An Apple patent application indicates that an idea for foldable smartphones has come to light. The phone would have a self-healing display cover, allowing the device to repair any imperfections that might need to be fixed. The proposed concept’s display would allow the device to repair itself without the user having to intervene manually. It would entail many exciting features, such as activating automatically and when the device is being charged. It would also use heat, light, or electric current to repair a protective layer above the screen. There is no suggestion that Apple will come out with a foldable phone with self-healing material anytime soon. Foldable phones have been in Apple’s wheelhouse for years. Although, enabling the idea has not yet come to fruition.
