Apple has been subject to a lot of controversy such as the wide array of chargers that they have. All of which are not generic chargers that can be used by many devices from different brands. They have been criticized because a lot of the cords that they produce are easily damaged and need to be replaced regularly.
Because of this, there are rumors that Apple will now move towards portless charging, wherein no wires will be used anymore but all phones should be charged through wireless chargers. This may be another bold move because not all people are comfortable with no cords and they may find it more complicated since they cannot use the phone while charging.
It is estimated that the next iPhone released by Apple will be completely portless. Over the years, the company has shown that a portless phone is on the way, for with each phone release, they have eliminated a port. It started with the headphone jack. Then, some of the phones do not have the USB port.
Apple is doing this because they want to make their devices as minimalist as possible, which can be done by eliminating the ports. Just like when they eliminated the headphone jack, it may take time to get adjusted too bust the fans of the devices will grow to accept it.
It is no longer a rumor: Apple is still considering the release of a portless iPhone in 2021. However, the reason why Apple is hell-bent on moving towards the portless future is what most people won't stop asking. With the possible release of a portless iPhone in 2021, iPhone lovers will still need to budget more money as this would cost more than its predecessors. However, I think the goal of this project by Apple is to ensure that their customers live a more convenient life with their phones. To me, this is not really about money; I think it's about convenience, and the urge to try new things. For instance, Apple was the first to announce its decision to replace regular headphones with AirPods. I think the urge to try new things is the spirit behind the proposed 2021 portless iPhone. However, what is certain is that this announcement from Apple will also create a kind of competition among other phone manufacturing companies who would want to try the same thing.
Apple is eliminating the charging brick; Apple is thinking about removing some of the friction associated with wireless charging. Apple’s version of a portless phone is the one that we want. Apple was the first company to drop the headphone jack. Now, a headphone jack is an added feature, and some are questioning whether you need a physical port at all. With broader cloud services integration and media streaming services, things like backing up images to a computer or transferring music to a phone are not nearly as prominent in use as they once were. Transitioning to a wireless future opens hardware possibilities as well. There is a limit on battery power, but removing the port allows for a larger battery that will not have to be charged as much.
