A mercenary is a hired professional who has been trained to fight for any state or nation without any political interests except for money or personal interest. Mercenaries have been existing since the early years.

During the hundreds of years of wars, Europe was overrun with men who were only trained in fighting, and also during the free companies of Swiss, Italian, and German, the mercenaries sold their service to a lot of dukes and princes. In the late 18 century, mercenaries won some prominence in the third world II and also, in Africa, they were hired by government and anti-government organizations.

It was later declared by the Geneva Convention that mercenaries are not recognized as legitimate combatants, and they do not have any legal protection. Examples of mercenaries include the joseph Adams, George bacon, Charlie Christodoulou, Yves Debay, Perter McAleese.

Mercenaries go by another name of soldiers of fortune. A person that is a mercenary is one that participates at any time where there is a conflict that involves the military. Sometimes mercenaries will go off and fight for their own purposes, such as to overthrow a leader or to fight for change in the country. Mercenaries are not official members of the military and they should not be related to anyone that is in the military. Now, mercenaries are illegal. They have been illegal since 1989, but there are many groups that still operate and have the same beliefs as mercenaries did.

A mercenary is also known to be a “soldier of fortune.” This is someone who will be participative whenever there is a military conflict. There are some soldiers who will usually fight for their own country but a mercenary is someone who will be fighting for his own personal fortune. This means that the person is an outsider to whatever conflict the different teams may be fighting for. What the mercenary cares about is gaining something from the conflict. The mercenary should not be related to any member of the official military.
