1. Obtain the materials you will use to crochet your hats, such as the yarn and crotchet hooker. Then measure the length you want for your winter hat.
2. Pick a tip of your yarn and tie the slipknot. This helps to hold the yarn firm with the needle.
3. Create the chain for your foundation by making five stitches. Pass the end of your hook through the first of those five stitches and make a stick to complete the foundation.
4. Get a piece of string and tie it around the stitch you have made to mark your starting point. This will also help you to know when you complete a row while stitching.
5. As you continue with the stitching of your hat, try to alter the pattern. Use a double stitch to start every row, then followed by a single stitch. Follow this pattern through to stitch the body of your hat.
6. Count the number of stitches you have made as you move on. Then switch back to just a stitch from the 7th or 8th row, and complete your stitches.
