1. Obtain your sample data and get it written down, most preferably in tabular form.
2. The next thing to do is to get a suitable formula for your calculations that is the formula of variance. Variance is usually represented by S², and its formula is usually [E(x1-x2)²]/(n-1). Variance actually has more than one formula, depending on the question. So, find out the correct formula to use.
3. Calculate X2, which is the mean of your values in the sample data. Mind you, mean, can also be represented by another thing, especially "bar x."
4. Making reference to your sample data table, subtract your mean value from each data value on the table, and write your results. After which you find the square of each of your results.
5. Add all the answers from your calculations above, and write it down. This will be the numerator value of our division.
6. Subtract one from your frequency, which is the number of data values on your table.
