However, the most common time you would be asked to find the equation of a line is when you are given the slope of the line and one point of the line.

1. Getting the equation of a line with the information provided above will require that you master this formula: y-y1 = m(x-x1), where m is the slope, x1, and y1 are the coordinates of the point given.

2. If you are given the slope of the line, the only thing you are required to do is plug in the slope into the formula. For instance, say the slope is given as 4, then what you will have is y-y1=4(x-x1).

3. Also, plugin the values of the two coordinates given. Let's assume the coordinate of the point given is (5,6), then x1= 5 and y1=6. Using the formula, what you will have is y-6= 4(x-5).

4. Solve for y using the equation. The final equation of the line will be y= 4x -14.
