Lead possesses a low melting point. It can be cast into different forms you want.
• Melting lead should be done with vigilance.
• It presents significant burn, fire, and poisoning hazards.
• Always work in a safe space with the appropriate safety gear.
• The following are simple steps to melt lead.
• Add the scrap lead to your cast iron pan or electric melting pot.
• Determine how much lead you need by weight, then add that amount plus at least another 20 percent to the vessel.
• Do not fill it more than 75 percent full for safety reasons.
• Instead, choose a larger vessel if necessary.
• Apply heat to the pan until the lead melts entirely.
• If you are using a handheld torch, light it up based on the directions and wave the flame back and forth directly over the lead in the pan.
• With an electric melting pot, plug it in and set it to the appropriate temperature based on the directions.
• The melting time is always different depending on the heat that is applied.
• Stir in 1-2 wax tea light candles to flux the lead.
• Put the lid on your vessel and dispose of it safely after it cools.
