Lions are fun to draw because of their wild-looking mane and robust and expressive face. If you have never attempted to draw a lion, or if you are a beginner with drawing in general, these simple steps can help you learn how.
• Sketch two circles to make the shape of the lion’s body.
• Draw a circle where you want the chest to be.
• Leave enough space to sketch another circle to the left.
• Draw an egg shape with guidelines above the large circle, which will be the head.
• Start to draw the face.
• Draw the ears.
• Draw three angled lines that extend from the circles to make guidelines for the legs.
• Draw two parallel lines that come down from the smaller circle.
• Sketch them from the left and then down to the right.
• Draw the front leg.
• Connect the three circles and lightly sketch the outline of the tail on the small circle.
• Draw a line that links the top circles with the head.
• Make the line come down towards the chest.
• Draw a line through the bottom of the circles that curve up to the right.
• Connect the line to the elongated end of the head. Now you have a fundamental outline of a lion.
• Draw the eye and the triangular nose in the bottom right of the head.
• Make the muzzle and whiskers.
• Make the head and ear shape realistic.
• Add a mane by making small feathery strokes.
• Draw the legs.
• Go back to the original outline of the lion and erase where you traced.
• If you want to create more detail, shade in short, precise lines to make it appear real.
