Steps to follow when measuring stairs for carpet include;

a. Measure the breadth of 1 track with a measuring tape. The track of a stair is the flat part of the stair of which you step. With a measuring tape, measure from 1 side of the stair to the opposite side. Round your estimation to the closest foot (or meter, on the off chance that you choose metric estimations), and write the breadth estimation

b. Include 2 in (5.1 cm) to the whole breadth estimation. When not added to the estimation, you will end up short on the carpet.

c. Measure upward over the track and riser of 1 stair. Position your measuring tape at the end edge of the track, and measure the track from front to back. Afterward twist the measuring tape down at a 90° angle, and don't stop estimating in the same course down the riser.

d. Round the estimations up and write them in a paper.

When measuring the floor to put down flat carpet, you must calculate by multiplying the length and the width.

However, when measuring the carpet for stairs, it is not that simple.

• You must take into consideration that the stairs are not flat, as they rise to the next floor.

• When you measure carpet on stairs, you must calculate the rise of one of the steps to be carpeted.

• The top of the step that you position your foot upon is called the tread.

• Use a tape measure to procure the fall of each step.

• The fall is the part of the step that connects the rise of two adjoining steps.

• Add the calculation of the step’s rise and fall together to come to the total length for each step.

• Count the number of steps that are the same size as the step that you measured, multiply your full amount for the length by the total of steps which are precisely the same size.

• Take the dimensions of any steps that are a different size from the first one measured.

• Add the measurements of all the steps.

• This measurement will be the total length of carpeting that is necessary for the stairs.

• To get the width of the steps, measure the broadest step on the staircase.

• Put the tape at one end of the rise and stretch it across to the other end.

• All you require is the size of the widest step.

One thing that you should know is that it will be harder to measure the carpet for your stairs as compared to measuring the carpet for the various parts of your home.

These are the steps that you have to take:

• Measure the rise and run of the stairs.

• Multiply the rise and run by the number of stairs that are available.

• Divide the number that you will get by 12 and you can round off the number depending on the number of feet available.

• Add the landings that you may have and you will be able to come up with the right measurement for your stairs.

If in case it will be hard for you to measure your stairs on your own, you can always ask some professionals to do it for you.

There are times when you would need to measure your stairs so that you can be sure that you will get the right carpet for the stairs.

These are the steps that you have to do for that:

• Measure the rise and run of the stairs.
• You need to multiply what you have measured based on the number of steps available.
• Divide by 12 and round off so that you can get the number of feet needed.
• Next that you have to do is to know the width of the stairs.
• Round up the width of the stairs to the nearest foot.
• If there are any landings, you would need to add all of them so that you can get the proper measurement.

You need to take note of all these things to ensure that you will have the best measurement for your stairs.

When adding stairs to a house, it is important to figure out the correct amount of carpet that is needed to cover those stairs.

To measure the stairs for the carpet, follow these steps:

• First, use a tape measure to measure the width of the stair

• Next, add two inches to that width, so that the carpet is able to fold over the edge

• Then, measure upward across the stair

• Round all the measurements up and be sure to have them written down

• Then, calculate the area of the step

• Multiply the area by the total number of steps

• Lastly, calculate the landing area and add that with the area of the square. It is advised to add 10% to that number so that you will not run out of carpet
