An E7 is a lovely, bluesy chord. Seventh chords are so-called because they add the 7th note of the major scale to the chord, offering the chord a more blues-inspired sound.
If you know how to already play an E-major chord, it will not be too difficult for you to master.
E7 is an easy chord to learn.
• The subsequent steps will help you learn how to play an E chord on the guitar.
• Leave the top string, the low E open.
• The widest string on the guitar is the 6th string.
• Since it is an E, the root note of an E7.
• You can keep this string open.
• Position your ring finger on the 2nd fret of the A string.
• If you can play E major, the approach is the same for E7.
• Keep the 4th string, the D open.
• This note is called the 7th note, but a higher octave of it than uncovered in the major scale.
• Play the G string on the top or first fret with your index and middle finger.
• The remainder of the strings are left open.
• This note is the same note used in an E major.
