You know that some people use 24 hours to know what the time is. Instead of the usual 12−hour format, people would be adding an additional 12 to the 12 numbers that we already know will tell the time.

If you see something like 18:00 and you do not know how to solve this, these are some of the things that you should do:

• Let us start with an example of 18:00.

• Just subtract 18 with 12, and you will get 6.

• This means that if you converted to a 12−hour format, you would be looking at 6 PM.

• If the time is less than 12, then this will automatically convert to AM.

Converting military time to standard 12−hour time will not be too hard as long as you know the right format to use.

1. The first thing you need to do when converting 24-hour to 12-hour time using a time conversion chart is to add 12 to 00:00, which signifies the first hour of the day in 24-hour time to give 12:00. Subsequently, add "AM" to it. This gives 12:00 AM i.e., the first hour you get at midnight.

2. The time between 1:00 AM to 11:59 AM in 24-hour time is also the same as the time you get in 12-hour time, just that zeroes are usually included in 24-hour time when referring to the time between 1:00 AM to 9:00 AM to give something like 01:00 AM to 09:00 AM. This means while 01:00 AM, 02:00 AM, 03:00 AM...... is used in 24-hour time, 1:00 AM, 2:00 AM, 3:00 AM is used in 12-hour time.

3. To get the right hour for the 12-hour time when the time is between 13:00 to 23:59 in 24-hour time, always subtract 12 from the current time in 24-hour time. For instance, say the current time in 24-hour time is 16:27, the right time in 12-hour time is 4:27 PM i.e., 16-12 = 4.
