Swimming provides the perfect mix of an aerobic workout with strength building in your arms, stomach, and legs. Being in the water automatically removes any shock to the joints.
If you have always wanted to swim, but you have just been intimidated, these simple steps can help.
• Get comfortable in the water.
• Get your face wet.
• Get in the shallow end.
• Hold onto the side of the pool and try putting your face in the water.
• Learn to float.
• Hold the side of the pool.
• Take a deep breath and lit your feet up while leaning backward.
• Attempt to float.
• Practice without holding onto the side.
• Practice with a floatation device.
• Hold the device in front of you with straight arms
• Push off from the wall and scissor kick with your legs straight behind you.
• Try to complete one lap with the floatation device, and once you become acclimated with the water, try doing a lap without the floatation device.
