There are different header styles that you may do depending on the project that you need to do or what you are looking for.

• You need to create the header in the upper right−hand corner.

• Always begin one inch from the top of the first page.

• Remember to flush with the left margin.

• You would need to place some details such as your name, your instructor’s name, the course number.

• Double-space and place the title in the center.

• Do not place a period after the title.

• Do not place any period after any of the headings that you will create.

If you are creating the header in Microsoft Word, remember to place the needed details on the actual header before you would move back to the rest of the document.

The Modern Language Association has a book which contains the official rules of academic formatting papers and literary works.

This formatting is done in MLA style, which is put into practice in schools and colleges all over the world.

• The page header is simple.

• It includes the author’s last name and the page number on the right margin.

• Use the right paper.

• You should use universal white 8.5 x 11. paper, which is very important to the MLA format.

• Make certain your word processor is set to this paper size before you format your header.

• Pick the correct font.

• The MLA does not stipulate a single font preference.

• Make sure your margins are done correctly.

• Put your last name and page number in the upper right margin.

• For example, if your last name is Martin, your header should look like: Martin page 3.

• Find out if you should skip the first-page header.

• MLA format allows the professor to determine whether to include the first-page header or leave it blank.
