Megabyte was used to explain a byte multiple (220 = 1024 x 1024 =1,048,576). Later, numerous international organizations and most storage media (including hard drives, DVDs, etc.) practice the Latin approach, whereby a megabyte is 103 bytes (1000 x 1000 =1,000,000.)
