MAC stands for Media Access Control, while IP stands for Internet Protocol, and these two addresses identify your computer in a network. It is used to track information to ensure that the addresses get to where they need to go. An Ip address is typically assigned by the network administrator or internet service provider.
MAC addresses, on the other hand, already exists on the device or the network card while manufacturing. It is specific, and it supposed to be unchanged. There are certain people trained to identify the IP address, the network, and its location. As far as MAC addresses are concerned, they can't do that since the address does not have information to lead to its location.
MAC addresses are supposed to be distinctive to each network interface card while an IP address is typically replaced. Unfortunately, some people make fake MAC and IP addresses, which means both are susceptible to fraud.
