There are two types of bedding, which would be the duvet and the coverlet. The coverlet appears to be a multi-layered fabric, which is usually three layers. The coverlet is meant to be decorative, such as a quilted material tied or sewn around a filler, otherwise known as batting. The batting is between the top patchwork and bottom backing fabric, and the coverlet is also known as a quilt.
The coverlet is a very slender piece of bedding, and is usually used to make the bed, or the couch look more detailed and colorful. The duvet, on the other hand, is bagged with feathers or different cloth-like material.
They are bagged because the feathers are usually inside of the casing. A comforter is then placed in a designed duvet casing before being used. The duvet insert, without its cover, ranges from white to off white. It is equivalent to an oversized flattened pillow, while the duvet cover is like a large pillowcase that covers the actual duvet or comforter.
