Rock music is a genre made popular in the 1950s by Elvis Presley, and then in the 1960s, it went mainstream with The Beatles. Rock music predominantly focuses on instruments such as the guitar, bass, keyboard, and drums. Rock music originated as a combination of different genres of the 1940s, such as country, western, rhythm, and blues.
Rock music started to shine when The Rolling Stones came onto the scene. It was then that rock music became more colorful and vivid. Rock music has always spoken to the younger generation of people looking for something to inspire them. Generation after generation, rock has proven it is a mainstay with its audiences.
On the other hand, rap music is classified as a subgenre of a broader music genre called hip hop. Rap started in the 1970s, as it came from the popularity of block parties in the Bronx area of New York. It did not technically become mainstream until the 1990s.
However, what they now call “old school hip hop” came from the 1980s. Unlike rock, rap music focuses on the lyrics and freestyling to a rhythmic beat. Real hip hop is like poetry. Some of the legendary hip hop giants, such as Biggie, Tupac, Eminem, and Kanye West, are known for their socially relevant and culture-driven music. Rap or hip hop is an essential and credible genre in music.
