The Crips was a gang formed in Los Angeles, California, in the US in the late sixties and early seventies. The Bloods, on the other hand, was created by smaller street gangs that came together to counter the growing influence of the Crips. The prominent gang who formed the Bloods was the Piru Street Boys.
The gang initially spread the philosophy that protection for the gang was necessary for its survival. This attempt at protecting the neighborhood went awry when the gang became engaged in criminal activities, such as drug dealing, murders, and robbery.
Crips became one of the largest organizations of street gangs, and their influence weakened until finally, the gang leader, Raymond Washington, was gunned down in 1979. The Crips, as well as the non-Crips, allied. They separated into another group, which was known as the Bloods. The color that represented the Bloods was red, while the color that represented the Crips was blue.
