Feta and goat cheese both come from goats and are made with goat’s milk. Goat cheese is much softer than feta, and goat cheese is also kept for a shorter period. One of the major distinctions between the two is that goat cheese is made from 100 percent goat milk, while feta is made from 70 percent goat milk.
There are also different kinds of goat cheese, including young goat cheese, which comes from a younger goat, whiter, and aged goat cheese, which is darker. The two kinds of cheese also have vastly different flavors. Feta cheese is salty, while goat cheese has a somewhat sweeter taste comparable to cream cheese. Goat cheese is too thick, slightly like melted brie, but is even a bit thicker than that.
Feta cheese is semi-soft and crumbly. Feta is common in Greece, while goat cheese is typical in France. Both kinds of cheese are delicious in creative salads with bright greens, nuts like walnuts or pistachios, and maybe even fruit such as sliced apples or strawberries. Greek salads typically have kalamata olives and tomato, while goat cheese is often served with a port of chicken or salmon on top of it.
