SD stands for Secure Digital, which is a memory card for use in portable devices, such as digital cameras and MP3 players. Most SD cards have a wide array of storage capacities, as a high capacity SD card can hold unfathomable amounts of information, ranging from 4 GB to 32 GB. The latest version of the SD card can even hold up to 2 TB, or terabytes of data. SD cards are built on the MMC format.

In contrast, MMC stands for Multimedia Card, which is a standard flash memory card, which is to declare it is the prototype and memory card as it is today. Its design is roughly based on Toshiba’s NAND based flash memory. Most MMC cards have a capability ranging from 152 MB to 32 MB. There are also several variants of the standard MMC. For example, the Reduced Size MMC is about half the size of a standard MMC.

SD or Secure Digital is a flash memory card format, whereas MMC or MultiMedia Card is a flash memory card standard. The similarity between the two SD and MMC is that both are used for storage. Apart from this similarity, both differ in terms of usage, capacity, and size. Let's start with the capacity of the memory cards. The SD card has a maximum capacity of 2GB. On the contrary, the MMC has a total capacity of 128GB and a theoretical capacity that goes up to 2TB. MMCs can work perfectly not only with MMC slots but also with SD slots. On the other hand, SD cards are not designed to be compatible with MMC slots; they are only compatible with SD slots. MMCs were first introduced in 1997 by SanDisk, and Siemens AG, whereas SD cards were first introduced in 1999 by SanDisk, Matsushita, and Toshiba.

SD or Secure Digital and MMC or Multimedia Card are two types of memory cards used in different devices. One of the differences between the two is the storage capacity of the two memory cards. While there are some SD cards with storage capacities between 152 MB to 2GB, there are others with storage capacities between 4 GB to 32 GB and even up to 2 TB. On the other hand, MMC is a flash memory card with a capacity that ranges from 4 GB to 32GB. In terms of appearance, SD and MMC cards are not the same. SD cards always come asymmetrically so they can be rightly positioned. Also, MMC cards thinner than SD cards. Another difference is that both have different dimensions. For instance, most SD cards come with a dimension of 32mm x 24mm x 2.1 mm. On the contrary, the regular dimension for MMC cards is 24mm x 32mm x 1.4mm.

SD is known as Secure Digital. MMC, on the other hand, stands for Multi Media Card. MMC is something that would be used for storage. This is normally placed on any portable device like a phone or a tablet. SD is also used for storage but the difference of this with the MMC is the fact that it will have more available storage. SD cards can have a maximum capacity of 4 TB which is actually huge considering the amount of data that you will be able to put in there. It will depend on people and the files that they need to input if they would be able to maximize the amount of space that will be given to them.

Some people may either use SD cards or the MMC. MMC stands for multimedia cards, and this is a flash memory card that can be used for storage. This is more commonly used for portable devices. This can be removed from the portable device and transferred to another device if needed. This will make it easy for certain details to become available.

SD stands for Secure Digital. This is a flash memory card, and like the MMC, it is also being used for storage. One thing that you would need to know is that both of these items come in different memory capacities. The higher the memory capacity, the more expensive they are going to be.
