“Pride” is celebrated in the month of June. It is a time dedicated to acknowledging the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) in society. The LGBTQ community was not enjoying equal civil rights like others, which prompted the liberation movement in the United States.
The riot for freedom started on June 28, 1969, where a group of gay people in Greenwich Village called “Stonewall inn” was furious at the maltreatment of the police towards the gay community, and they decided to stand their ground against such treatment.
This lead to the breakout and riot. Pride month is celebrated in honor of the 1969 Stonewall uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall uprising was for the liberation movement of Gay in the United States; it was originally celebrated on the last Sunday in June as Gay pride day.
