Workstation and desktop are computers used for different purposes. A desktop is used mostly at home and in the office while the workstations are mostly used in the workplace.

A desktop can be easily operated by anyone that knows a computer, it runs fine, and it can work with soft wares such as web applications, databases, spreadsheet, and word processors. It can also be used to play games, listen to music, and surf the web by users.

The workstations, on the other hand, are mostly used by scientists, architects, engineers, digital media creators. People that fall into this category use this system because their workforce requires it.
Workstations are more expensive than the desktop.

Workstations have a more powerful and very useful graphic design processing unit for 2D OR 3D graphics; it optimized its role of speeding up the movement of data. The desktop has multi-core processors while the workstation has more cores per CPU. The workstation comes with more RAM, larger and faster hard disk compared to the desktop.

Workstation and desktop are both computers just that desktops are low-end computers while workstations are high-end computers. Desktops are computers of different sizes designed to be used on a table or desk. Desktops are pretty popular because they are used mostly for personal needs. Desktops are seldom used by companies, too, just that they can't be used to perform heavy tasks.

Although workstations are most times classified as desktops, they are more powerful than the common desktops that are used for personal needs. Workstations are used mainly for specific tasks such as graphics, animations, etc. In contrast, desktops are used for things like word processing, gaming, etc.

Since workstations are specifically designed for certain tasks, the various accessories used for their development depend on the tasks they are to perform, whereas desktops come with so many accessories so that they can be used for a lot of things. In terms of price, workstations are more expensive compared to desktops.
