If you would check out the Jewish Encyclopedia, you may become a bit confused because if you would look at the terms “Hebrews” and “Israelites,” most of the time, they are thought to be the same. Usually, the term “Israelites” is used to describe “Hebrews” after they have been called to become the chosen people of God.
They both come from the nation that is considered to be special, as discussed in the Holy Bible. Take note that these terms are still being used in the New Testament too.
Some people would use them interchangeably, but those who are strict about it may use the term “Hebrews” before Moses and will use the term “Israelites” to describe the people after Moses’ time.
