What is the difference between Ethnicity and Nationality?

Some people may think that ethnicity and nationality are the same, but actually, they are different from each other. When you say nationality, this means that this is a person who is connected to the place where he/she is born.

Ethnicity is the identification of a person to a particular race or a group of religious people. There are also some people who may define their ethnicity as their cultural group.

For example, a person may say that the nationality of a person is American, but the ethnicity of the person is Filipino. This means that the person may have roots from the Philippines, but the person is living in America.

To differentiate ethnicity and nationality mostly depend on one’s ideology, this concept has brought people together and also can tear people apart due to their differences. Nationality can be defined as members of a particular state or nation by birth, origin, ownership; nationality can also be referred to as citizenship.

It indicates the country a person belongs to. Nationality also arises mainly from your geographical location.
Ethnicity can be defined as a personal identity based on their culture, examples of characteristics that indicate a person's ethnicity is their language, food, mode of dressing, religion, and many more.

Your ethnic group differentiates you from others even though you claim the same nationality.
