Whenever the cold and flu season starts, everyone suddenly seems interested in obtaining enough vitamin C. This is because the antioxidants in vitamin C help to strengthen our body’s immune system. We all know about vitamin C, but most of us are not aware of ascorbic acid and citric acid.

Citrus fruits can provide both ascorbic acid and citric acid. Ascorbic acid, which is vitamin C, is found in citrus fruits. Some examples include oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and even nectarines. There are numerous benefits to ascorbic acid. It helps to protect us from health issues such as high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.

Citric acid is a pure component of citrus fruits and some vegetables. The taste has quite a fruity flavor, and it is said to improve energy and give a gentle push to accelerate our metabolisms. Citric acid also helps in breaking down kidney stones and preventing new ones from developing.

Fruits and vegetables have a number of acids in them. Two of those acids include Ascorbic acid and citric acid. Though they are both acids, there are differences between them. Ascorbic acid is a type of Vitamin C. Citric Acid is an antioxidant. Both have their own type of health benefits, but between the two, Ascorbic acid is better because it is a type of Vitamin C that is recommended. Vitamin C can help improve the immune system, as well as help cholesterol levels. Citric acid can be used in a number of other areas such as cleaning products and in cosmetic products.
