What is the difference between Seeds and Peers?

Torrents have become the most recent and most remarkable among the file-sharing community. With torrents, there are no centralized servers from which files can be downloaded. Instead, the files are replicated from other users who possess segments of the file. Seeds are copies of the whole file which has been arranged so that other users have a source.

Peers are the individuals who are also downloading the file. Having more seeds than peers means more people are fighting for bandwidth, which is provided among all seeders. Although peers may be downloading the file, they may also recompense for the downloaded bandwidth they consume because other users may also download the portions of the file they already have, which diminishes the number of seeders. Seeding is something that is genuinely appreciated by the users, as it allows other people to download, and it makes it a lot faster for everyone else.
