Akita and Shiba Inu are pet dogs that come from Japan. Both types of dogs share very similar characteristics, as they are both named inu. Shiba Inu is the oldest dog in Japan. The second oldest is Akita Inu. These breeds are more substantial and more powerful than Shibas. Akita Inu has a median height of 28 inches and weighs between 70 to 120 pounds. On the other hand, Shiba Inus are medium-sized dogs that have a typical height between 13 to 16 inches, with a weight of 17 to 23 pounds.
Akita Inu is notorious for being protective of their owners, dominant and aggressive toward other dogs. They are known to be clean dogs with strong prey drive elements of personality. Shiba Inu breeds are independent dogs, and they hold themselves back when it comes to strangers. Shiba Inu breeds are somewhat hyper, and unlike Shiba Inu, Akita has a more fun-loving, playful demeanor.
