Metaphor and allegory are figures of speech that are found in art and literature. The metaphor refers to a phrasal expression that is often used in making a comparison of actions and objects that are not related. Allegory, however, can be said to an extension of metaphor. Allegory can actually be longer than a metaphor when it comes to their passages. Allegory contains additional points than a metaphor and is a substitute for another action or object.
When it comes to their presentations also, allegory has wider applications than a metaphor. They are usually seen in sculptures, paintings, literature, and many more. Meanwhile, metaphors are generally seen in the literature. Metaphor is a word that was derived from the Latin word "metaphora", and an old French word "metaphore," which simply means "carrying over." On the other hand, allegory is a word that is gotten from a Latin word "allegoria", which means figurative language.
