The waist refers to the part of the body between the pelvis and the stomach, or the part of the body between the hip and the rib cage. On the other hand, the hip is the outward-projecting part of the pelvis that is formed between the head of the femur and the pelvic acetabulum. The joint formed by the articulation of the two bones is called the hip joint.
Without this joint in our body, standing up will be a very difficult task. In short, the hip joint gives stability and balance to our body, and that is why we can stand up, walk, run without so much stress. According to researches, the waist-hip ratio of a healthy body for women is usually 0.7, whereas the waist-hip ratio of a healthy body for men is usually 0.9. While the hip is measured 2 inches below the umbilicus, the waist is measured by 2 inches above the umbilicus.
