The major difference between RISC or Reduced Instruction Set Computing and CISC or Complex Instruction Set Computing lies in the number of cycles it will take the instructions coming from each computer architecture. This depends largely on the goal and complexity of the instructions coming from the two. For instance, RISC can only be used for small tasks. However, in the event that you have a very big task to do, it will require that you give more instructions.

In contrast, CISC uses a high-level language code, and that is why it can be used to get big tasks done faster compared to RISC. This actually explains why the number of computing cycles of RISC cannot be compared to that of CISC. Every step in RISC requires a specific instruction, so it can be easily understood even by new programmers, but its drawback is that it is not as efficient as CISC.

RISC stands for Reduced Instruction, and CISC stands for Complex Instruction Set Computing. These are two computer architectures that are used. The major difference between the two is the number of cycles utilized and also the level of complexity. In RISC, each instruction is only intended to accomplish a very small command.

If your ambition is to complete a more complex task, then you need a lot of directives strung together. With CISC, each instruction is comparable to a high-level language code. You only need a few guidelines to attain your goal. RISC has a longer list of available instructions over and above CISC. Using RISC allows the programmer to remove irrelevant code and prevent wasting of cycles.
