An argument is known to be a type of rationale wherein you would like to present your side by showing some facts or details based on what you believe in. Sometimes you also present information based on the things that you have gathered.

The main goal of the argument is to stress your point or to make the other person believe you. When you say explanation, this refers to presenting different facts and information so that the person will begin to understand what you are trying to say. Usually, when you are presenting an explanation, you will have a conclusion. In an argument, you cannot give a conclusion yet.
